Direct answer

Pocket Archive is an independent automatic archive for Pocket/HeyPocket recordings. It writes portable files into Google Drive or OneDrive, while remaining dependent on Pocket’s API for access to each source recording.

What is Pocket Archive?

Pocket Archive is independent software that receives completed Pocket/HeyPocket recording events and writes portable archive files into Google Drive or Microsoft OneDrive. It is designed for continuous backup and data portability, not for controlling the Pocket recording device.

Is Pocket Archive affiliated with Pocket or HeyPocket?

No. Pocket Archive is an independent service and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Pocket or HeyPocket.

Do I need my own Pocket account and API key?

Yes. You generate an API key for a Pocket account you control and configure its webhook. Pocket Archive uses those customer-provided credentials only to perform the archive and related features you request.

Am I paying for access to the Pocket API?

No. A Pocket Archive subscription pays for independent synchronization software, infrastructure, product features, and support. Pocket Archive does not sell Pocket API access or provide a Pocket account.

Can Pocket recordings automatically sync to Google Drive?

Yes. Pocket Archive can create a Pocket Archive folder in Google Drive and automatically write a Markdown transcript, an available summary, and audio when the Pocket API provides it to the workflow.

Can Pocket recordings automatically sync to OneDrive?

Yes. OneDrive can be the active archive destination. Pocket Archive uses Microsoft Graph to create its folder and upload the available recording files.

Can I save to Google Drive and OneDrive at the same time?

Yes, on the Unlimited plan. Basic and Pro use one active destination. Multi-destination sync is best-effort, so one cloud can succeed while the other requires a reconnect.

Can Pocket Archive download older Pocket conversations?

Only while Pocket still returns the recording through its public API. Pocket Archive cannot restore a recording that Pocket deleted or stopped exposing. Starting an automatic archive early is safer than relying on future historical access.

Which files are written to my cloud storage?

Every successful sync writes a Markdown transcript. A Markdown summary is added when Pocket returns real summary content. Audio is added when it is available through the Pocket API and current product workflow.

Does Pocket Archive delete anything from Pocket?

No. The archive workflow reads the recording through Pocket’s API and writes copies into your selected cloud destination. It does not delete the source recording from Pocket.

Does Pocket Archive store copies of my recordings?

It does not maintain a separate library of the audio, transcript, or summary. Those pass through the Worker into your cloud. The service does store encrypted credentials, sync state, and limited cached derived content such as action items and recording titles to operate the product.

What Google Drive permission does Pocket Archive request?

It requests drive.file. Google restricts that permission to files the application created, so the token cannot browse existing documents elsewhere in your Drive.

Why does OneDrive request broader access?

Pocket Archive currently uses Files.ReadWrite because Microsoft Graph does not provide a direct drive.file equivalent for this folder workflow. That permission covers the whole OneDrive, although the application code uses it only for the Pocket Archive folder.

Can I use the archived files in Obsidian, Notion, ChatGPT, or Claude?

The Markdown and audio files are portable and can be imported, indexed, or synchronized by tools that support those formats. Pocket Archive does not claim a direct integration with each of those products.

What happens if Pocket changes its API?

New syncs and historical re-sync can be affected because Pocket Archive depends on Pocket’s public API. Files already written to your Google Drive or OneDrive remain there and do not depend on Pocket Archive continuing to exist.
